The Top Ten Workplace Trends list began as an effort to gain more visibility for SIOP while latching on to a popular news format of trends lists that seemed to always gain a lot of press coverage. I envisioned this list and worked with our Visibility Committee to make it a reality. Each year we poll our members to get their ideas regarding what trends we might see. We then consolidate the ideas around larger themes and have our members vote a second time on a their top ten. We release the list in December of each year for the following year.
Results: Not only has member engagement grown, but the list has garnered press in some mainstream media outlets, such as Yahoo News and FOX Business, in addition to being featured in many industry publications and websites (see screenshots below). In addition, internally, members and leaders use the list to help determine where there may be growth potential for research or where there may be member interest for new initiatives and publications.
